Guidance Counselor

The guidance counselor is responsible for empowering each student to reach his/her full potential by promoting a learning environment that addresses the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of adolescents in the middle grades.

The guidance department’s main objective is to help each student reach his/her full potential by fostering a learning environment that develops the social, academic, and emotional needs of students. The High School Guidance Program is comprehensive in nature and serves all students in grade 9-12. Counselors spend part of their time helping students solve a variety of problems such as changing their schedules at the beginning of each semester, college counseling, and dealing with personal problems either of a school or home nature.

The ideal for any counseling office is that the students know their counselor and feel comfortable about bringing their problems and successes to him/her. Many times, however, it is someone other than the student who will ask for intervention in helping to manage a particular problem.

While the setting is therapeutic and supportive, school counseling is not meant to replace on-going psychological or psychiatric counseling which is available in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
