Mathematics Philosophy

As a citizen in our contemporary world, our students must become mathematically literate and have the ability to explore, reason logically, work cooperatively, and apply a wide variety of methods to solve problems.

A quality mathematics program develops students’ conceptual understanding of mathematical topics and skills. Foundational to this understanding is an emphasis on the basic fundamentals of the properties of numbers, operations, algebra, data analysis, measurement, geometry, mathematical language and notation.

All math educators will teach/provide

  • Accurate & grade appropriate mathematical vocabulary and comprehension (communication)
  • Technology integration
  • Cross curricular integration (elementary)
  • Allotted time (elementary) 50 minutes per day, four times per week, and one day for math activities
  • Fundamental understanding of basic mathematical concepts
  • Problem solving skills
  • Real world applications
  • Basic math facts on a weekly basis
